Dixie Baum

Dixie Baum is an Alberta painter with roots in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Her life-long interest in all things creative has taken many forms, including work in television and video production, fiction and non-fiction writing, and eventually, a focus on acrylic painting alongside her career in communications. Dixie currently works in an assisted living community where she teaches acrylic painting processes and helps older adults create art.

As an informally trained artist, Dixie feels fortunate and grateful to learn from many brilliant artists. Her exploration of the spiritual nature of life and interest in the human psyche frequently shows up metaphorically in her work. An avid photographer, she is often inspired to capture images in urban, rural, and industrial spaces that she later uses as reference material. She enjoys creating both representational and non- representational artwork.

Dixie exhibits with the Federation of Canadian Artists/ FCA Calgary Chapter, the Calgary Sketch and Painting Club, the Calgary Community Painters Society, Abstract 6, and The Uncommon Collective.
