Born in Saskatoon, raised in the Okanagan Valley and having worked and lived in Lethbridge, Toronto and Ottawa, I have a deep love for the beauty of this country. I recently moved from Ottawa and the forested beauty of Eastern Canada to Cochrane, Alberta where I am excited to explore and capture the wide-open images and scenes found among the foothills of the Canadian Rockies.
At the age of 16 I began my ‘pencil in hand’ artistic journey as an architectural draftsman in the Okanagan Valley. I completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education with a Fine Arts major at Brigham Young University. My artwork was put on hold through my working years as an educator but a few years before retirement I picked up my watercolors and began to paint again.
My subject matter ranges from landscapes to cityscapes, always with an interest in light and its effect on color and composition. I am drawn to detail and am always exploring new techniques and approaches to the use of watercolor. My recent interest has been with ‘pouring’ watercolor and my experimentation has led me to some exciting approaches to the technique.
