As an artist, Sheila’s goal is to fall in love with and be intrigued her own work! She is a life-long learner and her studio is a place of endless exploration and personal development. Most recently, her media are acrylic paint and collage.
Sheila’s home and studio are tucked away at the end of a ‘No Exit’ road in the spectacular foothills of southern Alberta. This landscape has been a source of inspiration for years as her work has moved from representational to abstracted images. The subject matter may be trees, but her work is now highly intuitive, emotionally rich and design-driven. She works toward a personal ‘Yes!’ in the belief that personally authentic work speaks most loudly to those meant to receive it.
Sheila has been influenced by many skilled and generous instructors; among them: Nicholas Wilton, Jed Dorsey, lan Roberts, Brian Atyeo, John Poon, Jean Pederson, Gary Olson, Richard Brown, Isabelle Hunt-Johnson, David More & Anne Perodeau.
For several years, Sheila kept a studio and showed out of Calgary’s Artpoint Gallery and Studios Society. She served there in a variety of voluntary roles, including as President of the Society. Her work appears in personal and corporate collections in both Canada and the U.S.
Art has always been a ‘first love’ but Sheila’s career path found her in the world of broadcast journalism. She was known to many Calgarians as co-host (Sheila Baptie/Rowe) of CBC’s Calgary Eyeopener morning program. Sheila is married to Bob Rowe; they have two grown sons and five delightful grandchildren.
