Biography Dianne was employed as a teacher in Alberta in the 1970’s. She enjoyed an active pottery career in Victoria and Calgary in the 1980’s making high-fired, wheel thrown stoneware. The move to two dimensional art in the 1990’s and early 2000’s led her through several workshops in Calgary, Red Deer and Laguna Beach. These courses include drawing, watercolour, oriental brushwork, monotype, collage and acrylics.Dianne enjoys the richness of nature, winter and summer, by cross-country skiing and hiking. Travel provides a wealth of memories and reference material for her art.As a member of the Calgary Chapter of The Federation of Canadian Artists, Dianne has won several awards for her work in juried shows. She earned the signature status of “Associate of the Federation of Canadian Artists”, (AFCA), in March 2008.  Dianne is also a member of The Leighton Art Centre.
Artist Statement My mixed media paintings express reality in a personal, non-traditional way. I work with little or no reference material. This way of working sends me on an engaging and, at times, daunting, voyage of discovery. I begin with an interesting motif in mind. Then I choose media which will best express that motif. I act intuitively as I experiment with hand-painted papers, acrylic mediums and paint. I may also use pencil crayons, graphite, inks or personally hand-carved rubber stamps to express my vision. When I paint realistic subjects in a more traditional manner, I use my original photos for initial inspiration. Using acrylics, I paint scenes from nature and buildings and travel. Ultimately, I hope the finished piece will convey my feelings about the subjects through exciting design, colour and brushwork.
