Description

A Two Day Oil Painting Workshop

David has been a professional portrait painter for 35 years and is a renowned and award winning Canadian Artist from the west coast. David is a Signature Member of the Portrait Society of America and of Oil Painters of America as well as a Senior Signature Member of FCA Canada. He has completed over 440 portraiture commissions to date from around the world. His subjects have included Royalty, Prime Ministers, Speakers, Premiers and Lt Governors and leaders from the business works, the arts and law.

“Many of the paintings in galleries across the world are portraits. Nowhere is our story more eloquently written then in the human face” David Goatley

Working from a live model, we will explore the basic proportions of the head; drawing convincing features; using tone to describe form and structure; and all that goes into making a lively and engaging portrait. Working alla-prima in black and white paint, will help us grasp tonal concepts. Then we will progress to colour and other related aspects on the second day.

We will work with clear step by step, hands on instruction, a wealth of technical tips, continuous demonstrations, and personal instruction at each student’s easel. Questions are encouraged at all times.

David will be working in and teaching from his base medium of Oils, however he is open to people working in acrylic and pastel.

The images above are of David Goatley, a self portrait (however it was done in colour) and Haa’yuups (Chief Ron Hamilton).
