Lynne Grillmair Lynne studied art history at the University of B.C. from 1965-69. It was under the direction of Tony Onley and BC Binning that her artistic ambitions were fostered. Twenty years later an unforeseen early retirement enabled her to remove her chef's hat and pick up paint brushes embarking on a new career.

Lynne attended the Alberta College of Art for one year in 1989 where she honed her rusty drawing skills and reacquainted herself with the visual experience. Since then she has taken several workshops locally, at Saltspring Island and in Calgary. These workshops have been very positive experiences in her artistic development.

In 1998 she became an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and in 2003 qualified for associate membership which brings jurying responsibilities with it.

Her work is represented in Invermere by Artym Gallery, Strands Restaurant and Avens Gallery in Canmore.  Lynne also has an ongoing exhibition and sale at the new Office of the Ombudsman for Ontario's Workman's Compensation Board of Ontario in downtown Toronto.

In the works currently she has been hired to execute a series of watercolor paintings to accompany 16 poem/legends of an aboriginal group, The Stö'lo (part of the Coast Salish group) in a limited collector's edition to be released in 2005.

Artist's Statement

Lynne is fascinated with the mercurial properties of water based media combining it with collage elements, gels, metallics and other drawing materials to enrich the surface. It is colour, shape and textural elements that she uses primarily to express herself. Her love of the landscape and features of nature provide inspiration for "realistically" rendered paintings. Her journey to explore not only the aesthetic qualities of her materials but also to visually realize her inner voice have led her into the arena of abstraction. Many of the techniques demonstrated by Mary Todd Beam, experimental artist, in a workshop in May 2000 have opened up an entire Pandora's box of possibilities for future ideas.
